Mide unos 145 metros de longitud y el ancho de la calzada es de 7. Consta de 4 arcos y varios aliviaderos. Su construcción es igual al del río guadiana. Este pequeño puente tenía su importancia ya que conectaba la betica (actual Andalucía), con el norte de Hispania a través de la famosa ruta o vía de la plata. 
En las proximidades del puente, se encontraría una de las cuatro puertas de entrada a la Colonia de Augusta Emerita.
